5 Reasons why the WWE Universe refuse to give Roman Reigns another chance at being the top guy

Roman Reigns made his WWE debut alongside Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins as The Shield and while The WWE Universe grew to love the dominant faction, they eventually soured on Roman Reigns for one reason for another. Unfortunately for The WWE Universe, Reigns quickly became the superstar that Vince McMahon had big plans for.

With that being said and Reigns’ seemingly never-ending push continuing past WrestleMania 34, here are five reasons why fans actually hate Roman Reigns. Whether these are good reasons or not remain to be seen and will be up to individual opinion, but these are the reasons that Reigns gets booed every time his music hits.

#5 Lack of promo skills

Roman Reigns has many weaknesses, but one of his biggest ones is the fact that the man can’t cut a promo to save his life. While it’s not easy to pinpoint what is exactly wrong with his ability on the microphone, his words come across as devoid of emotion and completely disconnected from the feelings of The WWE Universe.

Its almost like Reigns doesn’t even believe the words he’s saying when he does a segment and that’s what makes him mess up so much. Not only that, his jack in the beanstalk promo with The Big Show back in 2014 was one of the worst segments in all of Raw history, and what originally started to sour people on The Big Dog.

#4 Wellness policy violation

Another problem with Reigns is that he is prone to making mistakes. While Reigns has managed to cut down on these types of incidents over the last couple of years, he was suspended for a wellness policy violation in 2015. What made the situation worse was that he was champion at the time of the discovery, and The WWE initially tried to cover it up.

Unfortunately for WWE, the information about Reign’s violation was leaked and the company was forced to suspend their biggest star for 30 days. Before announcing his suspension to the world, WWE had him lose the title clean to longtime rival, Seth Rollins in a one on one contest at Money In The Bank.

What made the fans angry however was the fact that Reigns was instantly inserted back into the title picture upon his return and was even a semi-finalist for newly created Universal Title. Of course, Reigns eventually lost to Finn Balor, who would go on to defeat Seth Rollins for the title at Summerslam, but fans were still unhappy about the unequal treatment he received.

#3 Pushed too far too fast

WWE definitely made a mistake by pushing Roman Reigns down fans throats immediately following the breakup of The Shield and Reigns proved almost instantly that he was wasn’t ready for the spot. Not only that, he also suffered an injury month into his singles push, which completely derailed any momentum the big dog had built up.

Even worse, WWE still had him win The Royal Rumble match that coming January, which angered fans due to the fact that they thought Daniel Bryan deserved the win. Reigns eventually defeated Bryan for the opportunity to go on to WrestleMania to take on Brock Lesnar for The WWE title, but fans were still not behind Reigns at all.

In the end, WWE was forced to change plans and have Seth Rollins cash in his Money in The Bank contract during the main event match between Reigns and Lesnar, which allowed Rollins to pin Reigns and win his first ever WWE championship. Reigns continued to chase the title for months but were ultimately unsuccessful.

With that being said, WWE has been forced multiple times to change plans due to Reigns not being over with the crowd, and believe it or not, a lot of that has to do with The WWE repeatedly pushing Reigns way too fast. Maybe that will change one day once WWE has a concrete plan in place for Reigns, but not with the half-baked ideas the company is coming up with right now.

#2 Inadvertently holding stars back

While this isn’t exactly Roman Reign’s fault, especially since WWE officials choose who to push, when and why, a lot of The WWE Universe seem to hold it against Reigns that their favourite Superstar is being held back. In fact, that’s been one of the biggest problems with him being pushed altogether.

For example, WWE had him win The 2015 Royal Rumble, which drew a lot of criticism due to fans wanting Daniel Bryan to win that year. To be fair to Reigns, the same thing happened the year before when Batista won The Royal Rumble, but the fact that WWE ignored what the fans wanted again only made them angrier.

Another example was the 2018 Elimination Chamber pay per view, where WWE had Bruan Strowman dominate the entire match, only to lose to Roman Reigns in the final moments. What made the decision even worse was how much WWE had been building Strowman as a face at the time, which made him the perfect opponent for Lesnar at WrestleMania 34.

Then there was Finn Balor, who The WWE Universe also wanted to re-enter the title picture at WrestleMania by winning The Elimination Chamber match, but was cast aside into an Intercontinental title match with The The Miz and Seth Rollins instead. While it’s not known who WWE would have picked if they didn’t go with Reigns, fans were still upset that The WWE wanted Reigns in the title picture instead.

#1 Defeating The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33

While its loss didn’t have the same effect after Brock Lesnar ended The Undertaker’s streak at WrestleMania 30, Roman Reigns defeating The Undertaker in the main event of WrestleMania 33 still sent shock waves through The WWE. Not only that, it completely halted the push WWE had for him.

WWE probably thought Reigns defeating The Undertaker would earn him a great deal of respect and might finally be what pushes The Big Dog to the top of the mountain, but all it did was make him even less liked. In fact, WWE even had to take Reigns off television a night after the match in order to start building him as a face again.

With all that in mind, having Reigns defeat The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33 will probably always be Reigns lowest moment with The WWE Universe and be one of the main reasons that he never gets over with the crowd.

Maybe that could change if WWE is able to redo The Shield reunion the right way, but Reigns will see little positive feedback from fans in the meantime.
